Summer Recess
The Sew-N-Sews will not be meeting during the summer months. Our first meeting of the 2011-2012 season will be held on September 14 at 1:30 pm in the Oakwood Ballroom. Enjoy your summer!
May Meeting
Our speaker for May is Barbara Janson. Barbara is from Scottsdale and teaches at "Sew from the Heart".
Her presentation is titled "The Art of Landscape Quilting", and she will also have a trunk show. At the recentArizona Quilt Guild competition, she won first place in both the Pictorial and Theme divisions for her quilts. This past year she has been working as one of the main artists and designers for the 2012 Arizona Centennial Quilt Project. This colorful pictorial two sided quilt will tour our state next year to honor our 100th birthday. With over 400 images and appliques of historical places, native Arizona peoples, animal and birds, floral and fauna-- it was quite a project.
Even though we are not a "quilting" group, we know you will find her and her work fascinating!

MARCH MEETING
Sew - N - Sews Vintage Fashion Show
Sew - N - Sews members are going through their closets to find vintage clothing. They now say vintage is the 1990's back to the 1800's!
Martha Hansen, an expert on vintage clothing, will coordinate our program on March 9th at 1:30 PM in the Oakwood ballroom with over twenty of our members' articles of vintage dresses, jewelry and accessories. Some of the members will be modeling their clothing. Other articles will just be displayed.
Martha has over 400 pieces in her personal collection in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and has spoken to Sun Lakers many times. "Pictures tell a thousand words but a closet can tell stories of a life time". She will be sharing some of that collection with us.
It's remarkable we have any vintage clothing here in Sun Lakes since most of us have moved here from some other place. Many times the closets are cleaned out and we don't keep those dresses that reminded us of a specific time and what the occasion meant. This will bring back many fond memories about those dresses, jewelry and accessories that are so special and that is why we have kept them in our closets!
Guests are welcome.

FEBRUARY MEETING
The Sew-N-Sews meeting on February 9th will feature Patrick Lose. He has spent his professional years in a variety of creative fields beginning his career as an actor and singer, which eventually led him to designing costumes for stage and screen celebrities such as Liza Minnelli and Jane Seymour. Patrick works in many mediums designing quilts, wearable art, stationery products, or home decor. He is probably most well known for fabrics that includes his trademark marbleized solids which have been tread setters in the industry. His quilts, crafts, clothing, and home decorating accessories have appeared in many distinguished magazines. JANUARY PROGRAM
We will be having a different program in January because Linda MacPhee had to cancel because of health reasons. In her place we will have Eric Faulhaber who is the coordinator of the "Vision Gallery" for the city of Chandler and also sets up the displays at the Chandler Center for the Arts. Currently "Art Quilts XV: Needleplay - an exploration of textile art" is on display until January 14th. We will also hear from some of our members: Betty Bell will have a trunk show of her weaving (her loom is VERY large), Judie Whitney sharing her latest beading projects and Linda Larson will show us some pillows she made (her Christmas pillow gifts were beautiful) and tell us about embroidery cut work. Mary Jo Williamson will tell us about ASG which she is the president this year

DECEMBER PROGRAM
Jon McCoy started being a Santa in 1978 by delivering gifts on Christmas Eve to people who had purchased them from his wife's Gift and China store in Ames, Iowa. He continued that practice for 12 years. He starts growing his hair in April and the beard in late May for the authentic look of Santa. In December he greets the children when "The Nutcracker" is performed at the Chandler Center for the Arts. He has been doing this for seven years. Jon is "Santa" for many private parties and the Cottonwood/Palo Verde Christmas parade. He has been singing since he was ten and will treat us with some holiday songs and his experiences as "Santa". Sam Luse will "Tickle the Ivories" for us with holiday music. Come dressed in the holiday spirit and enjoy a great dessert. See you on December 8th!
